Relationships at the Point of Care (RPC)—
Tools for Improving Care at All Levels

Supporting Patients and Families

Relationships at the Point of Care (RPC) was designed to improve the level of quality and care received by patients and families from employees at all levels. Based on some of the concepts of the Leadership at the Point of Care (LPC) program, RPC helps all staff develop caring and healing relationships with patients, families and colleagues.

While nurses and other direct caregivers have an obvious impact on patients, everyone in the hospital setting touches patients and families. Like nurses, ancillary and support staff have chosen to work with people at their most vulnerable -- and they also want to make a difference in the lives of the patients and families they serve.

The RPC program helps participants turn their desire into action by teaching them skills that will have a positive affect on patient healing and the environment of care among patients and colleagues.

Practical Tools
RPC participants will receive instruction in these six major areas:
  • Effective communication skills

  • Cultural and generational diversity

  • Team building and work relationships.

  • Balance in life and stress management

  • Conflict resolution

  • Emotional intelligence

Practical applications for each topic are provided for the participants through sharing of conceptual information along with taking part in experiential exercises.

Who Should Participate
Designed to reach across multiple disciplines, RBC is an eight hour program that can be used as a stand alone curriculum or as an adjunct to Leadership at the Point of Care (LPC).

The content of this program is meaningful for ancillary and support staff, but is also applicable to all disciplines, regardless of title or preparation.
