Susan Wessel, RN,
MS, MBA, NEA-BC is a consultant with Creative Health Care Management
specializing in organizational development, leadership and education.
Her career spans 30 years, ranging from staff nurse, nurse manager,
director, and vice president to educator. Susan has held executive
positions with nursing and ancillary services within community hospitals
and multi-hospital systems. Her expertise includes CQI and patient
safety, financial management, building professional practice environments,
and educating leaders and managers.
Susan has achieved superior patient satisfaction and staff retention
through shared governance and clinical advancement systems. She
is expert in organizing clinical departments to achieve patient
centered care, clinical excellence and staff empowerment. As a frequent
speaker, one of her most popular presentations is on Holistic Nursing-Stories
of Caring (a collection of staff nurse stories). She has also presented
on topics such as: budgeting and financial management for hospital
managers, comprehensive organizational assessments for the new leader,
Rapid Cycle PDSA, and strategic planning.
Susan specializes in organizational assessments using appreciative
inquiry methodology, outcomes measurement, and in building professional
