Susan Wessel serves as a consultant with Creative Health Care Management. Working in partnership with health care institutions, she improves patient care through the design and implementation of Relationship-Based Care. She leads transformational processes that help clients strengthen their clinical quality outcomes as well as patient and employee satisfaction. She specializes in building professional practice environments consistent with Magnet™ recognition criteria and in providing leadership education for empowered organizations. Her programs are inspirational, helping staff members reconnect with their purpose in health care.
Susan is a co-editor of the Relationship-Based Care Field Guide, published in 2007 by Creative Health Care Management. She serves as a course leader for the Relationship-Based Care Leader Practicum and for Leading an Empowered Organization seminars. Her 30-year career spans staff nurse, manager, director, vice president, educator and consultant roles. Susan has held executive positions in nursing and ancillary services within community hospitals and multi-hospital systems.
Susan received a master's degree in nursing from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an MBA from Xavier University. She holds advanced national certification as a nurse executive, and completed a Johnson & Johnson fellowship in management for nurses at the Wharton School of Business. Susan has served as chairman of the board of Hospice Partners in Chicago and is currently on the American Nurses Credentialing Center nursing administration content expert panel.
