Areas of Expertise
Gen wears many hats at CHCM, but at heart her roles are all focused on advancing
nursing as a profession and nursing professional development. Whether it's educating on
Relationship-Based Care, helping education departments with structure and competency
metrics, or guiding organizations as they establish a culture of excellence, including the journey to
Magnet® designation, Gen sees the possibilities in all of her clients. She takes them as they are,
meets them where they are in their development, and helps them reach their personal, staff and
organizational goals.
"I always tell my clients 'Your success is my success,'" says Gen. And they appreciate her
unwavering optimism and determination as well as her incredible responsiveness. "Because
consulting is Gen's primary job, she was always there for us and never more than a phone call
away," says one of her successful culture of excellence clients. "She thrives on seeing others grow
within the profession and takes pride in knowing that she has made a difference."
Gen has a master's degree in education and a certificate of advanced graduate studies (CAGS) in
Organization Development from Cambridge College in Cambridge, MA. She is certified in critical
care nursing (CCRN) as well as in nursing professional development (RN-BC). Gen has served as
an officer of the National Nursing Staff Development Organization (NNSDO) and is past
president of the NNSDO Affiliate - North Eastern Organization of Nurse Educators (NEONE).
She is an invited member of the National Magnet® Conference Continuing Education Task Force,
which is responsible for the selection of conference presentations and posters.
One of Gen's great strengths is her breadth of knowledge. She has lived and worked
internationally, giving her a keen familiarity with a variety of health care systems, and she's
worked with nurses educated all over the world. She also brings her far-ranging background to
each job—can blend Relationship-Based Care with her expertise in creating a culture of
excellence, and creating customized structures and processes tailored to measure specific
outcomes. "I love helping organizations build the infrastructure to support a culture of nursing
excellence," she says. "I just love my job."
